This first post about the Sabbath is for my friend Mikey in Boston. Remember I said that I would post something for the Sabbath? Here goes!
Foreword
A House of Prayer for ALL People For mine house shall be called a house of prayer for all people, for every one that takes hold of my covenant.[1]
My children taught me to get by on only fitful periods of shuteye. Running our own business and moving house too often helped fast-track the crumbling of a perfectly healthy body for no good reason at all.
No holidays, no weekends, no time to rest, no time to repair or replenish.
When even time set aside for fun was scheduled as yet another chore to be done, I realised that conflicting priorities and values were powerfully driving a rudderless ship.
Poor time management skills, workaholism, misguided principles and loyalties, Superwoman Syndrome, whatever you want to call it, till I read the Bible front to back and back to front, I didn’t know what the word rest meant.
Rest to me meant the state your body falls into when your eyes close from sheer exhaustion and you can’t stay awake any longer, no matter how hard you try. Temporary release from that torturous state is what I would have defined as rest.
God said, The Seventh Day is the Sabbath Six days shall you labour, and do all your work: But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God: in it you shall not do any work ..[2]
Wow, someone telling me to take a whole day a week off? Did I read that correctly? Now that’s an interesting concept.
There are plenty of people who take a whole weekend off each week but few of us actually rest on those days.
As anyone who runs their own business knows, business hours may be nine to five but the bulk of the work gets done outside these hours.
My children literally begged me to take some time off, saying, ‘Mummy we miss you, we never see you anymore.’
Jesus said,
I Will Give You Rest Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.[3]
Jesus said, “Come,” and I came running, tumbling and fumbling.
No More Tears The Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces ..[4]
How hard were those first few Sabbaths? I cried a lot. It’s OK to grieve about what could have been. It’s OK to catch up too. Fifty-two Sabbaths each year for thirty years equals nearly four and a half years of rest I never allowed myself.
In addition to this there are all kinds of different Sabbaths throughout the year as well.
God tells us to rest on the Sabbath.
Keep the Seventh Day Holy I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery… Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy… for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day, and made it holy.[5]
And once more
Commanded You to Keep the Sabbath Remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD your God brought you out from there through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.[6]
GOD SAVED His people from slavery. Whereas slaves they had to work day and night, as soon as God delivered them, He told His people to have their day of rest and reminded us to keep this day holy.
God tells us that He Himself rested after six days of work and that makes the Sabbath pretty special.
My Sabbaths are now holy to me, and a delight for sure. To just hang out for a whole day each week, resting and recuperating, to study God’s Holy Word and share with anyone interested is the best thing I’ve ever done in my life.
To actively cease work, and know that it’s OK because God is in charge and taking care of business, is the perfect remedy for a burnt-out body needing regenerating.
If God Himself rested after six days of work as an example for us to follow, who am I to argue with that?
Yes, for sure at one time I was a slave to the business, my husband and my children. However, after reading God’s Word I understand the meaning of no rest for the wicked.
No Peace for the Wicked But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, says my God, for the wicked.[7]
Before I grabbed hold of Jesus’ invite, I had well and truly given up. How could anyone work so desperately hard only to discover that all her efforts had been merely building castles in the air?
We Will Serve The Lord Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.[8]
Today my castles are still floating around. I believe God’s Word and as such I know that it is merely a matter of time for the foundation to be laid underneath my dream castles. I’ve been feeling the earth move already.
Be of Good Courage I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.[9]

EDIT 2021 Thank you Mum for introducing me to Jesus. Thank you for the parables and the love you shared with me for the Son of God. Your daughter is continuing the tradition and I am forever grateful that you introduced me to the most important Man in my life, Jesus. He promised us rest, Cometo Me,allyou whoare wearyand burdened,and Iwill give you rest.
I pray for all Mums to find rest. Not just on Mother’s day, my wish for all Mums is to realise every day of the year that Jesus has our back.
I know that during the COVID19 season many Mums saw their homes convert into offices as well as schools. Your job may have tripled in volume and significance. People around you got sick and needed care and you provided and still are providing that care, and some of your charges died. And yet, you keep going. And you continue to be that pillar of strength for all those around you. You are the best and without you, this world is nothing and has nothing worth having. I applaud you!
My prayer for all the world’s Mums for the coming year is to be blessed beyond your imagination. You are amazing angels sent from heaven! (2020)

Yes, there is such a thing as Godly love. And God is very clear about it.
I’ve been through harrowing experiences in life and been blessed and lucky enough to have family members who were there for me through thick and thin.
For years on end for various reasons I haven’t been very mobile and things that may not seem like a big deal to someone else can be a huge thing to a person who is being cared for and dependent on others.
I remember some occasions where everyone would go out and party but one of my daughters stayed put and said, ‘I’d rather stay home with you, Mum.’
Of course she wanted to join the others at the music festival but at the time, she convinced me that she would rather stay home with me. Which made me feel all warm and fuzzy. This may be a little thing but at the time it meant a lot to me.
Naturally I said that I didn’t care and didn’t want to go anyway and I spouted all those kind of little white lies to make everyone else around me feel comfortable so that they would keep going about their business, but of course I did not want to be left behind.
It shows love to stay behind and nurture the one that is not able to go out. It shows love to forego fun and friends and instead care for someone that needs help.
Both my children have done that for me at various times.
On another occasion a severe tropical cyclone was about to hit our area and at one stage it appeared that we had to leave our home. At the time I could not travel, even leaving my bed was barely possible. I told my daughters to pack their gear and go.
They didn’t blink, they didn’t pack. They stayed put, with me, their Mum. I remember those occasions. Those instances of true love. I’ve been fortunate to experience many throughout my life.
The word love is one of the most repeated words throughout the Bible. The word love is mentioned 686 times in the New International Version of the Bible. Love is very important to our Heavenly Father.
The 24 verses I selected on heavenly love are to remind us of our Father’s love. They are to remind us of Jesus’ love for us, and they serve as a reminder for us, how to love one and other.

These Scripture verses are a great help with Bible studies and they can add an extra dimension to prayer times.
Favourite Scripture verses on God providing comfort
God promises to comfort us like a mother. It doesn’t come much better than that.
The Bible tells us that when our dad and mother abandon us, Our Heavenly Father will take care of us.
This may be because our parents died. Sometimes, for various reasons, parents aren’t able to take care of their own children.
In Psalm 27:10 we’re told that when this happens God will take care of us.
And even when our own parents are still alive and close by, they don’t always have time or the ability to be there for us when we need them. But Our Heavenly Father is always there.
He always listens and He always responds. And the promise is that He will comfort us like a mother.

Palace issues an apology and promises restitution

International current affairs correspondent Mimi Emmanuel reports.
This morning at 9.30 am London time, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll released a new statement from Buckingham Palace.
We, Queen Elizabeth ll, sincerely apologise for the hurt and mistreatment experienced by my grandson Harry, his wife Meghan and my great-grandchild Archie.
I was horrified to hear about their distressing experiences which they endured at the hands of media, palace staff and family members.
A thorough investigation will be launched into all the false accusations which have been made against them and the lack of respect and care endured by Meghan as Harry’s girlfriend and his wife.
We, the Queen, will make restitution fourfold.
We will deal with these matters privately but the public needs to know that as a grandmother I have been blindsided by courtiers, family and media.
I thought that Meghan and Harry were enjoying holidays in Australia and California and now I’ve discovered that they fled for their lives.
Heads will roll… guaranteed.
I’m looking for new courtiers. Anyone at all is welcome to apply because clearly what’s been happening so far hasn’t been working. It’s time for the monarchy to turn a new leaf.
Meghan’s Mum, Doria has been employed as a consultant to help us choose appropriate people to deal with racial issues. Meghan will be consulted on how we can prevent bringing on suicidal thoughts in new family members.
Harry’s income will be restored to him fourfold. And Archie was made a prince this morning retrospectively, with all the protection that comes with it.
I am deeply sorry this happened to two fine young people like Harry and Meghan. This should never have happened on my watch.
I will make sure that the legacy I leave will be of a monarchy of inclusion, love and fairness.
I am grateful to Harry and Meghan for speaking up. If it was not for them I would have been left in the dark about this. I recognise the courage that must have taken to do so.
My promise to them is that I will turn this around. I thank them from the bottom of my heart for their honesty and integrity.
I ask the media and the world to treat each other with love, kindness and compassion and to particularly do so towards my favourite grandson Harry and his wife Meghan. They have suffered unnecessarily for way too long.
Now I know what I know… this will never happen again in the British monarchy.
Today is the first day of our new credo: Fairness, Compassion and Love to All.

This should never have happened to you in plain sight for the entire world with hardly anyone ever speaking up for you. I am so sorry.
I apologise to you on behalf of all of us who wanted to but did not speak up because we felt powerless to stop the paparazzi and outta control courtiers and so on.
If I have advice for you at all, it is to hire someone to filter out all the hate from the world and only read the good bits.
The bad journalism says nothing about you and everything about them. Please don’t waste your time and mental health on it.
Instead of being afforded the protection, love and security that you were both entitled to, your inheritance was blatantly ripped away from you for no good reason whatsoever and your name has been vilified again and again by the ignoramus and their allies.
From very early on you were both thrown into a media circus and given no reasonable choices whatsoever. Your restraint, dignity and composure are a lesson to us all. Thank you.

Have you ever felt like Jonah? And no, I am not a prophetess. But as children of God, we know that our lives are not just about eating ice creams and sitting on the beach. Sure, we’ll indulge in that every now and then, but this is not what we’re aiming for in life. We’ve got stuff to do. Jesus told us… right?
Jonah is portrayed in the Bible as a reluctant prophet who hesitated when God told him to go and tell some people. He ran away from the job at hand, was swallowed by a whale, spat out and eventually did as he was told. This story ended well. You can read about it in the books of Jonah 1, 2, 3 and 4 in the Bible.
All of us, religious or not. We were born uniquely to do something. This could be to take care of our partner, the kids, the family, run a business, take care of Mum and Dad when the need arises, teach or heal the sick, cloth and feed the poor, comfort those who need this. Whatever it is for our unique situation, we know what it is we need to do. Some people say that they cannot figure out what their special talent or calling in life is. I am celebrating!
I’ve felt like Jonah. And now I don’t anymore because I did as I was told. So I’m celebrating!
Unlike Jonah who wished that he would die, I’m happy that I am able to share my story.
Around twelve years ago, I knew that I was supposed to tell my story. I knew that I had to write it down to give people an opportunity to reflect and think for themselves what they would like to do.
So I wrote it down, but like Jonah I was reluctant to share it. You know, I thought, ‘oh people won’t like it, they’ll disagree, they’ll this… and they’ll that…’ So I wrote my story down but I never advertised it so very few people ever found it. My story is only around 100 pages. After I wrote my story down and half-assed the sharing part, (published but did not advertise) I experienced one calamity after another. Meanwhile, I participated in a number of anthologies and wrote book after book, like twelve of them, but never ‘that’ one. The one I was told to.
Then I was catapulted off a horse and could have died but I didn’t. This is when I knew that I couldn’t put it off any longer and had to share my story.
I thought to myself: Imagine me getting to the pearly gates and Peter saying, ‘Did you do as you were told?’ and I would have to shake my head and say, ‘Well, I used some of the talents I was given, but uh, uh, not for the purpose I was told.’
That would look bad. I mean that would look really bad.
I cringed thinking about it.
So I did as I was told. I found the cover which was created by a family member twelve years ago, and I located the manuscript, overcame endless hurdles to do with deleted files on computers and incompatibility between Word and Google docs and eventually gave the manuscript to my editor and published it. Now I’m celebrating because I can tick this one off the list. Yes!

before I get any further, the contents of Carol’s mouth empty over my sink.
Carol “Mimi, that’s feral! You don’t feed people grass!”
I shrug and grab her glass as well. Yum, two for me today.
Carol Shaking her head from side to side. “About the mark of the Beast.”
me “What about it?” Sipping my yummy pick-me-up.
Carol “You reckon, just listening to certain songs will get you the mark?”
me “What do you reckon?”
Carol “I guess it makes sense. Whatever you fill your head with and whatever you sing along with…“
me “Makes sense to me. I don’t like people blasting that loud rough stuff into my ears, it gives me the creeps.”
Carol “Never really gave it much thought, to be honest. I like turning the music up loud when I’m cleaning the house. Don’t really care what’s on as long as it is loud with a groovy tune.”
me “Whatever works for you, Carol. I like instrumentals. That way I don’t have to figure out what my mind is being influenced by, or should I say poisoned with?“
Carol “That’s a bit rough.”
me “You were worried about getting the mark of the Beast, right?”
Carol “Well, everyone is talking about it.”
me “Sure. If you don’t want to line up for this mark. Stay away from music feeding you a scenario you don’t want to be part of.”
Carol “I guess.”
me “Find a leader, a shepherd to guide you. I’ll share my favourite with you.“

If Jesus were to give a sermon in your church today, would you pay attention? Or would you be too busy listening to the other teacher(s)? (Thank you, Doug for pointing that out to me)
Jesus said He was the only teacher.
Jesus told us to follow Him (not anyone else).
And He said that He spoke His Father’s words and followed His Father’s commandments.
Do you?
And if you don’t… who are you following and why?
Jesus taught us about conduct of life and spirituality. He taught us God’s Love Rules. He explained why they are important.
And He lived according to these rules to show us how it is done.
Thank you Jesus, I love you for your sacrifice. I love you for your exemplary life and for the example you set for us to live a sinless and love-filled life.
Conversations with a family member about what is meant when we’re told to ‘invite Jesus into our hearts’ motivated me to study the Bible in-depth.
The answer to this question was not readily available and inspired me to continue with my Bible studies.
In the process, five common Christian myths were busted and I discovered what true love is all about.
I’ve bundled my findings in ‘The Truth, Love & God Series’ and just launched book three in this trilogy; ‘The Core Message of the Bible in a Few Pages – God’s Love Rules: The Truth About The Good News (The Truth, Love & God series Book 3).’

Am now 48 times less likely to get a brain injury when I go riding
Is it all about the colour?
I love cycling on my Gekko HP Velotechnik recumbent trike. Thank you, Gekko! And naturally, I want to be safe when I do so. I tell you what happened after I lost my helmet the other day.
I Lost My Helmet
By law we need to wear a bicycle helmet, here in Queensand, Australia, when we go out for a cycle.
How on earth did I last week end up back home without my helmet, without my glasses, without my scarf and without my gloves? I do not know.
One moment I’m cycling wearing all of these, the next moment I’m back home with none of these.
I’m not going into detail as to why this happened because the short answer is that I do not know how this happened. Also I have spare glasses, spare scarves and even spare gloves. The only thing I don’t have is a spare helmet. All I had to do was get myself another helmet.
One of my children offered me her helmet but I was not okay with that. What would she do if she wanted to go for a ride? A helmet is mandatory.
Buying a New Seven-Dollar Helmet at Kmart For Mum
So off we went to Kmart to buy another helmet. It’s all about colour, right? To stay safe, we want a bright colour.
Kmart has nice pink helmets for seven dollars. That’ll do me.
My other daughter also needs a helmet because the straps on hers broke the other day. She wants a blue one. But not a Kmart one. She wants a fashionable one. Fair enough, she’s young. When we’re young, we want fashionable helmets. Where does she want to go for her helmet? She tells me that she has seen a nice blue one online for sixty dollars. I nearly choke. Sixty dollars for a helmet? Just because of shape and colour?
Whatever, she’s young. She can do whatever she likes. I’m happy with my pink seven-dollar Kmart helmet. That’ll do me.
Shopping Online for Crystal
When we get home, Crystal goes online and shares with me her selection of helmets. “Why blue? And why that shape,” I ask. Knowing that blue is her favourite colour. But fifty-three dollars worth of favourite colour? “It matches her outfit,” she tells me. Her preferred shape is more fashionable.
Change Of Direction… Looking for Red Helmets
Okay, I’m thinking, why shouldn’t I get a colour that matches my outfit? So far I’ve just thrown stuff together so as not to get a chill when I’m cycling. But she’s planted the seed and all of a sudden I find myself googling red coloured helmets. My trike is red you see. Hell, I’m thinking I may even match the Gekko red with lippie.
This is fun. We’re both googling till our fingers are sore and it’s time to go to bed. Price, what price, who cares; I saw a gorgeous red coloured helmet… red is a safe colour, right? I like the colour of the Align helmet best.
I find a local retailer that stocks these helmets for fifty-nine dollars and tomorrow morning I’ll be on the phone to them.
Red It Is!
First thing in the morning I phone the cyclist shop.
“I’m after one of these red helmets, this is the code. Do you have one in store in my size please?”
For whatever reason, I cannot find their webpage back online but I had made note of the helmet code.
Bob from the cyclist shop also cannot find the page, “it’s down,” he says, “for maintenance,” so he cannot look up the code at the moment.
“What was I after again?”
I answered, “I’m a girl, it’s all about the colour and I want the helmet to match my bike which is red.”
Or Is It MIPS?
He misunderstood me and thought I said MIPS.
“Was it a MIPS helmet?” he asked.
“What’s MIPS?” I say.
“MIPS is good,” Bob says.
“Talk me into it,” I say.
And he did.
He said, “MIPS prevents you from getting a concussion when you have a fall.”
What? I thought all helmets would do that.
Apparently not.
Well, that’s news to me. Call me naïve, but without giving it much thought, I thought all helmets would prevent me from getting a concussion.
Not true.
Oh.
Suddenly, colour wasn’t as much of a priority. I truly thought all helmets would prevent me from getting a serious injury in case of an accident.
According to the ultimate bike helmet buying guide, this means, what I also thought to be true, and that price is irrelevant when it comes to safety because all helmets are approved. Below is what I copied and pasted from the Bike Exchange website on the 6th of July 2020.
Right? Wrong!
You see. I had been happy with my seven-dollar Kmart helmet because, till my daughter planted other seeds, I didn’t care about colour, shape or weight. I thought that as long as a helmet was approved and had the (AS/NZS 2063) seal I was going to be safe from serious injury because my helmet would protect me. My helmet, which had come with the bike, had served me well and when I lost it I was happy to buy another one off the shelf from Kmart because it was quick, easy and affordable.
MIPS Reduces Traumatic Brain Injuries
What I discovered by listening to Bob from the Adrenaline Bike shop is that the MIPS helmets came about when a scientist and neurosurgeon collaborated to reduce traumatic brain injuries caused by bike accidents.
The MIPS design was patented in 2002.
In a nutshell, MIPS is designed to soak up some of the energy from oblique impacts to protect the brain.
Sounds good to me.

We’ve clearly come a long way from when I was riding a bicycle as a child without a helmet and got concussed quite a few times when I tumbled off my bike without a helmet.
I thought that the Australian and New Zealand standard stringent safety test (AS/NZS 2063) were sufficient protection when buying a helmet.
After talking to Bob, I understand that there is more to it than that. And that technology has come a long way in the last few years.
The good news is that the MIPS is available for around $60. So now we can have fashion and safety rolled into one.
However, this is not all that Bob had to share.
But Wait, There’s More
“Better still,” he said.
“Yes, what?” I asked.
“There is even more advanced technology,” he said.
“Okay,” I said. “Talk me into it.”
By now I understood that the precious grey matter between my ears could be protected better than I thought, and I wanted to know all there was to know about it.
Particularly because only a month ago my goofy big Dane cross had pulled me over which had caused me a rib dislocation. This had happened at near-enough standstill speed. Because of this I had decided not to take Layla, or Blondie as her nickname goes, on rides with me any longer.
I was happy at the time that I was wearing a helmet because with the fall, I banged my head and ribs against rocks and that could have ended quite differently if it had been just my skull without the protection.
This fall alerted me to the need for good protection.
It’s just that at the time I thought I had the best possible protection available for seven dollars.
I know, silly me. I don’t always think everything out. Maybe I should share Layla’s nickname.
Bob continued.
“Six months ago I was riding with ten mates on the Sunshine Coast and we all went down. It was a bad crash and I was the only guy in the team that went home without a concussion.”
That’s impressive.
“Why was that?”
Bontrager WaveCel technology
Bob grinned, “I was the only rider wearing a Bontrager WaveCel helmet.”
“Okay, you talked me into it. Tell me more.”
“Not so long ago, in March 2019, a new system was patented by Bontrager, the WaveCel Technology.”
Foam-only helmets, and this includes helmets which meet the Australian and New Zealand standard (AS/NZS 2063) have the highest brain-injury risk at 50 percent.
Followed by the MIPS with a brain-injury risk of 34%.
And the clear winner is the WaveCel technology helmet which has a brain injury risk of just 1.2 percent.
When we read, ‘Australian and New Zealand standard (AS/NZS 2063)’ we should understand that this is ‘a minimum requirement’ and not necessarily ‘the best available’ or ‘adequate protection’ given the circumstances.
Do your research. Be Safe!
It took me 15 minutes to become more educated about safe bicycle helmets. If you are like me and thought that the Australian and New Zealand standard (AS/NZS 2063) label will keep you and yours safe… think again.
You’ll be safer than riding without a helmet, that’s for sure. But not as safe as you can be, once you are aware of today’s technology.
Ecstatically Happy that I Lost My Helmet
You understand that I am ecstatically happy that I lost my helmet the other day.
Had I not lost my helmet, it could have been years before I discovered the new WaveCel technology.
Without a doubt this is the helmet of the future and for those of us lucky enough to have discovered it, we can wear this helmet today when we go for a ride.
I soon hope to be picking up my red helmet that could be up to 48 times more effective at preventing concussions. I’ll be fashionable as well as safer.
And I like you to be safe as well and that’s why I’m sharing. So you know about this new technology and have a choice when you go cycling.

My family traditions and
religion during Christmas
I have a confession to make. I used to dread the ‘Holy Season.’ Not any more. I tell you what happened.
I was born in Australia and grew up in Europe. My dad was brought up as a Catholic and my Mum grew up a Protestant.
In Holland, we celebrated ‘Sinterklaas’ on the 5th of December.
Sinterklaas still is, all these years later, represented by an old man with a long white beard and a large red cloak. During my childhood, he arrived by boat and after this, he drove through our village streets on his white horse accompanied by his helpers, ‘de Zwarte pieten.’
Good children were rewarded with treats and gifts. Naughty children risked being put in ‘the bag’ by Santa’s helpers and taken back to Spain. Sinterklaas’ helpers looked black because of the soot they collected as they navigated chimneys with their load of gifts, to deliver goodies to the well-behaved children.
Thanks, Mum!
Scary stuff. My Mum didn’t like her children to be intimidated by imaginary strangers. Therefore she told us, kids, that Sinterklaas was fake and she would make sure that we received as many presents as the other children did.
Lotsa brownie points for my Mum there. She lost a fair amount of leverage throughout the year, I’m sure; not being able to threaten us with Zwarte Piet’s ‘bag.’ But whatever leverage she lost, she more than regained in respect for being a truthful parent who treated her children with thoughtful kindness.
I’m pretty sure that my siblings and I were the only children in our school who didn’t believe in Sinterklaas.
On the fifth of December we received lots of gifts and on the 25th of December, we celebrated Jesus’ birthday with a real Christmas tree with real candles. The tree was placed next to a nativity scene and all kinds of yummy foods that my Mum prepared according to Dutch tradition.

Santa Claus
In my early twenties, I moved back to my country of birth, Australia, where I married an Englishman. He had never heard of Sinterklaas but couldn’t wait to introduce me to Santa Claus, also known as Father Christmas in his home country.
I’ve since discovered that both Sinterklaas and Santa Claus grew out of traditions surrounding the historical Saint Nicholas (a fourth-century Greek bishop and gift-giver of Myra). Different cultures, different names but the principles are the same. Lotsa gifts for good kids and naughty children… beware!
As a child, I cherished the celebrations surrounding Sinterklaas and Christmas. That whole end-of-year season was filled with fun and holiness, as far as I was concerned.
As a Mum with little children, I didn’t enjoy Christmas so much. I remember the Christmas period and weeks leading up to it as frantic and filled with too much cleaning, too much cooking, too many presents, and way too large a credit card bill!
Holy Season?
I started to dread the ‘Holy Season.’
After my health crumbled I wasn’t able to get out and buy a Christmas tree and presents etc and, after discussion, my teenage children and I agreed to stop celebrating Christmas.
This did not go down well with family. We were disowned by some and ignored by others.
By now I had started to read the Bible in earnest and couldn’t find Christmas in the Bible. Sure I found Jesus’ birth recorded but no date, nor an invite to celebrate. Does this matter at all?
In addition, I found Jesus’ Father rebuking people having parties around a tree, eating pork and such delicacies. He called them a stench up his nose.
In the context of various cultures celebrating the birth of Jesus the best we know how to… I don’t think it matters that much what day Jesus was born or how we celebrate His birth.
In the context of how Jesus said He would like to be remembered. It matters… to me. He did not ask us to remember the day he was born by giving gifts to each other. But at the Passover, he asked us to break bread and drink wine in remembrance of Him.
This do in remembrance of me
Before he was crucified Jesus took the cup and gave thanks. He also took bread, blessed it, and brake it, and gave unto his disciples, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. In the same way, he took the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
What is Christmas all about? And he took the bread… do this to remember me
I gave it some thought and cannot think of any good reason why I wouldn’t want to remember Jesus several times a day in the way that He asked me to.
I leave it up to you to decide for yourself how often you would like to remember Jesus.
And that is exactly the point of this post.
Honour everyone’s traditions
With this post, I want to honour everyone’s traditions whatever they may be according to their culture and religion.
Who am I to tell anyone how to celebrate Christmas or any other religious feast?
I grew up celebrating Sinterklaas and Christmas. In my twenties, I married into a different culture which saw me adopt the Santa Claus tradition. After this, my girls and I for various reasons weren’t able to celebrate Christmas the way we knew how to, which was a mix of Dutch, English, Australian and religious celebrations and traditions.
After much reflection and a decade of inactivity in that regard, we now invite friends and family over to hang out during the holidays, and we remember Jesus how He told us that He would like to be remembered.
Part of my family rejected me when for various reasons I decided that my children and I wouldn’t celebrate Christmas any longer in the traditional way. The traditional way in my case had been excessive and decadent. And I was, and still am very happy to leave this self-indulgent behaviour behind.
Above all, more than honouring my family, friends or tradition I want to honour my Saviour and love of my life, Jesus. I want to do what He asked me to do in remembrance of Him.
Therefore, at lunch, I proposed a toast and said,
This toast is to our guest of honour, Yeshua. Even though no-one knows the date of his birth, today His name and birthday are celebrated all over the world.
Yeshua (meaning Saviour), also known as Jesus asked us to remember every time we break bread and drink wine, that His body was broken and His blood was shed on our behalf.
It is because of Yeshua’s sacrifice that we may live. He shows us the way.

24 Encouraging Scripture Verses; HE heals the broken-hearted
The Scripture Verses from last week (1) and this week (2) are from Psalm 121.
There is a personal story connected with this song/Psalm. And it goes like this:
Once upon a time I was lucky to own a dog named Song. She was gorgeous in personality as well as looks and we were all head over heels with Song. She was a Mastiff/Dane cross, with a beautiful cream colour coat and at 65 kilos she was a force to be reckoned with. Not that she ever exercised her authority. The most she would ever do was get up on her feet and gently place herself between the aggressor and the other person. That is all she ever really needed to do.
Song made us all feel safe from predators and aggressive people. When we slept, I knew that she had our back. When we, as three girls, travelled unknown towns with Song, no one ever approached us. Her imposing looks, kept us safe from predators. I did not realise how much I counted on her presence till she died at the ripe old (dog) age of 14. I was absolutely devastated. Now what? I missed my lovely friend as well as our protector.
As usual, when I’m distressed, I opened up the Bible for comfort. The Bible fell open at Psalm 121 and I read,
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth,
and even for evermore.

My Help Comes From The Lord
Instantly my mind was at peace and I realised that it was not my dog Song that had kept my family safe all these years. It was our Father in Heaven that looked over us. Sure, no doubt, he uses guardian angels, and Song may well have been one of those. But bottom line is, that it is God who takes care of our well being and keeps us safe. It is not man nor animal. Now we feel inspired to sing Psalm 121 whenever we go out in the car, knowing that protection comes from above.
My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of Heaven and Earth. Psalm 121:2
We’re bound to be disappointed when we count on people to help us and keep us from harm. The Lord however, keeps all his promises and has never disappointed me.

The Healing Power of Prayer; 24 encouraging Scripture verses for people with major illness
A friend of mine, let’s call her Isabella, was recently diagnosed with a potentially life-threatening condition. After weeks of anxiety, tests and an operation, Isabella will now undergo radiation treatment.
It is an awful thing to be diagnosed with a major illness. And often we are at a loss as on how to proceed. The doctors say one thing. Friends, family, and neighbours all want to have their say also and the whole process of testing and treating can be a confusing and challenging time.
Our Lives are in God’s Hands
As friends, we may not always know what to do and how to help. All I really want to do is hold Isabella in a tight hug and tell her that it will be OK. I want to tell her that our lives are in God’s hands and that he has good plans for her.
I think about my friend often and as usual, when I’m distressed about something, I find comfort in God’s Word. Prayer is known to reduce stress and inflammation in the body.
Does the strength of the healing power depend on the faith of the person praying? Sometimes, yes. But not always.
There is healing power in God’s Holy Word which is as true today as it was thousands of years ago. We can claim the promises from God’s Holy Word as our own. It is as easy as that.
24 ENCOURAGING SCRIPTURE VERSES FOR PEOPLE WITH MAJOR ILLNESS
Isabella told me the other day that 25 radiation treatments have been scheduled ‘as a precaution.’ I found 25 Scripture verses to encourage my friend and others on a similar journey. One for each day of treatment.
The first Scripture Verse is below and the others will follow to help and encourage anyone needing comfort and encouragement during medical treatment of any kind.
The Lord Will Keep You

Love and cherish according to God’s holy law. What does this mean?

Loveand cherish according to God’s Holy Law
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, (now the Duke and Duchess of Sussex) promised to love and cherish each other according to God’s holy law. What does this mean?
Prince Harry: I Harry, take you, Meghan, to be my wife, to have and to hold from, this day forward; for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part; according to God’s holy law. In the presence of God, I make this vow.
Meghan Markle: I Meghan, take you, Harry, to be my husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward; for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part; according to God’s holy law. In the presence of God, I make this vow.
Meghan and Harry promised to love and to cherish according to God’s holy law and not only that, but they also called God as their witness.
Meghan and Harry took time to adjust their vows the way they liked. How do we know this? We know this because when we comparethe wedding transcript of Prince William and Kate to that of Prince Harry and Meghan we can see that the vows and wedding service aren’t the same but, as one would expect, have been individualised.
We know that the word ‘obey’ was taken out of the vows. Just as with Princess Diana’s wedding and just as with William and Kate’s wedding. All three of these royal ladies decided to equally love and cherish without the word ‘obey.’ What Meghan and Harry decided to do however is,
to love and to cherish, till death us do part;
according to God’s holy law.
What does it mean to love and cherish according to God’s Holy Law?
Reverend Michael Curry quoted from Scriptures Deuteronomy and Leviticus as well as from Jesus during his passionate sermon,
you shall love the Lord your God, with all your heart,
all your soul, all your mind and all your strength.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like it: love your neighbour as yourself.
Jesus quoting from the Prophets and summing up the commandments
Reverend Michael Curry went on to explain that,
On these two, love of God and love of neighbour,
hang all the law. All the prophets. Everything that Moses wrote. Everything in the holy prophets, everything in the Scriptures. Everything that God has been trying to tell the world: Love God. Love your neighbours.
Reverend Michael Curry then said, There’s power in love to show us the way to live.
The choir sang about it during the wedding ceremony as follows,
MOTET If ye love me,
keep my commandments,
and I will pray the Father,
and he shall give you another comforter,
that he may ‘bide with you forever,
e’en the spirit of truth. If ye love me, by Thomas Tallis (1505-85)
To show that our love is genuine, we love and cherish according to the holy law and keep the commandments. Which commandments? The Ten which you can read about here. The Ten Commandments (holy law) explain how tolove God and how tolove your neighbours,

God spoke, and these were his words:
“I am the LORD your God who brought you out of Egypt, where you were slaves.
I
Worship no god but me.
II
“Do not make for yourselves images of anything in heaven or on earth or in the water under the earth. Do not bow down to any idol or worship it, because I am the LORD your God and I tolerate no rivals. I bring punishment on those who hate me and on their descendants down to the third and fourth generation. But I show my love to thousands of generations+ of those who love me and obey my laws.

“Do not use my name for evil purposes, for I, the LORD your God, will punish anyone who misuses my name.
IV
“Observe the Sabbath and keep it holy. You have six days in which to do your work, but the seventh day is a day of rest dedicated to me. On that day no one is to work—neither you, your children, your slaves, your animals, nor the foreigners who live in your country. In six days I, the LORD, made the earth, the sky, the seas, and everything in them, but on the seventh day I rested. That is why I, the LORD, blessed the Sabbath and made it holy.

“Respect your father and your mother, so that you may live a long time in the land that I am giving you.

“Do not accuse anyone falsely.

“Do not desire another man’s house; do not desire his wife, his slaves, his cattle, his donkeys, or anything else that he owns.”
How tolove according to the holy law, how tolove God and how tolove your neighbours is explained in the Ten commandments.
These are the words that the Creator of heaven and earth wrote on a slab of stone with his own finger,
And he gave to Moses, when he had finished speaking with him on Mount Sinai, the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God.
… There’s power in love to show us the way to live… The commandments show us how tolove each other by the way we live.
The Bible is all about love. Scripture tells us again and again to love one and other. Reverend Michael Curry deliberately choose those specific Scripture verses in consultation with the newlyweds to bring home the power and beauty of true love, highlighting how the commandments tie in with this.
Scripture tells us that love is being good to each other according to the holy law; Worship Go(o)d and not (d)evil, no idolatry/images, don’t swear nor blasphemy, rest one day a week, honour your elders, don’t kill, don’t commit adultery, don’t steal, don’t lie, don’t covet.
It is not that hard, to love according to God’s holy law. Harry and Meghan decided to do it and so can we.
And this answers the question; Is love the same for us ‘commoners’ as it is for Harry and Meghan? Yes, love is the same for all of us.
We can all love like royalty, according to God’s holy law.
And the how to is clearly explained by the Ten Commandments (holy law).

Differences and similarities between Easter and the Passover

The end of the year is creeping closer and this is the time when we start to make our resolutions and resolve to do better next year.
What if you wouldn’t have to resolve anything at all? What if you could just dream about what you would like to see manifest in your life and these dreams would come true?
I know that this sounds crazy and airy fairy but this is exactly what happened to me.
After I pulled through, I decided that this simply was not good enough.
What if I were to stop sweating the small stuff?
Yes, it was true that I could not get up from bed for more than a few minutes at a time, but hey, the sun still came up every morning and set every night. And I was alive enough to notice this.
So what if my arms and shoulders got tired after typing for a little while? At least I could type, and my old little laptop was still holding up.
What if the noise from neighbour’s lawnmowers was so distracting that I couldn’t focus? The fancy orange earplugs from Bunnings did a great job in keeping the noise out. Combined with the Bilsom ear muffs I managed to create my own little writers retreat.
The noise, lights, heat and any movement were overwhelming to me, but I was still around and with the help of my daughters everything eventually became manageable. We found earplugs which helped minimise the noise and curtains to block out all light and movements from outside. A fan to cool the air and comfy cushions that supported my back as well as my head and arms. Bit by bit I stopped sweating the small stuff.
Do The Best You Can
Sure it was upsetting that I couldn’t ‘do’ much, but I decided that ‘doing the best I can,’ is good enough for me.
It is not only good enough for me but it really is all anyone can do. It is useless to fret and sweat about the things we cannot do (any more).
Make Every Moment Count
What each of us can do however, is make every moment count. In the past I may have been distracted when my children were talking to me and showing off their handiwork. Nowadays I make sure that I am present and in the moment when I admire their creations and listen to their adventures.
‘You won first prize at the archery competition? Wow! No, really; WOW! Let’s celebrate.’
‘You received an award at work for being the most exceptional employee? That is outstanding! I am so proud of you!’
From now on I make every moment count. For a lot of the time I was not capable of much other than dreaming about what I would like to see manifest in my life. I prayed and dreamed and built massive castles in the sky. Because that was all I was able to do.
The other day I read in Scott Allan’s book Drive Your Destiny about “research where Russian scientists conducted experiments on the training methods of four groups of athletes:
The fourth group had the best result overall, outperforming the competition in the Olympics.”
I am living proof that the mental training works. Physical training wasn’t really on the menu. I spent my days dreaming to my heart’s content about what I would like to see manifest; and here we are 5 books later.
All that my castles in the air were lacking, was solid ground underneath them. That foundational work is now in process. I call it, reverse-engineering your life.
Give It Your Best Shot
When you’re writing down your New Year’s resolutions, don’t worry if all your ducks aren’t in a row yet, don’t sweat the small stuff; dream away, write down what your ideal life looks like and then give it your best shot. Science has your back.

News reports often fill me with anxiety because it appears that there are so many injustices in the world. Sometimes it is possible to write a letter here and there or make a donation, but often enough the best we can do is sink to our knees, and send our heartfelt prayers for a better world up high.

What does meek mean? Quiet, patient, gentle, benevolent, kind, unassuming, humble and courteous are the words that come up in google when I search for alternatives to the word ‘meek.’

According to Jesus, Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted.
I’ve mourned plenty over lost health, lost friends and fortune and many other things that have gone awry in my world. Do I feel comforted now? Very much so.
I mourned when I had to leave my old town, which I loved a lot. Now I’m feeling warmly embraced by my current new town. Praise the Lord!

To be honest I never gave this too much thought. Too busy raising kids, managing clinics, and pleasing hubby. If I found a spare moment I used to fall asleep on the spot. I never thought about a good life or a better life, I was just living my life as it was. Till it all fell into a big heap. And I thought that this was the END.
When I worked in our clinics I used to say that I would need, “A long time to recover from this,” It’s been nearly two decades of recovery. Mind your words;
Because these words may come back to haunt you.
Sure I felt this way. But I also could have said something to the effect of, “It’s nice to know that all this hard work is paying off and I’m looking forward to many holidays and relaxation in the future.”
Alas, I didn’t and have been convalescing for a long time now. I’m grateful for the opportunity this has given me to share some of my story and graphics.
So here goes.
How to live your best life possible?
Think about how you would like to be remembered and then set out to create this.
There was a lovely lesson in this.
You know how people feel lost and they set out about finding themselves? Why bother? Waste of time. How about creating a new you? Now that’s much more fun!
With the help of My Friends Above I’ve been rebuild pretty much. The Same vintage but completely remodeled. I like it.
In the process, I discovered that our story creates a legacy and that goes for all of us. Young and old, small and tall, we all have a story to tell.

How to make your story the best it can be?
There’s a good reason why we would like our story to be the best it can be. All of us will live forever.
Regardless if we believe in an afterlife or not, we’ll live forever in the hearts of those who knew us.
Following are three simple steps to help you make your story the best it can be.
Step One is to create your own eulogy which will help you become aware of how you would like to be remembered at the end of your life.
Step Two is to remember what you were good at when you were at pre-school and what you enjoyed doing.
Step Three is to take the very first step towards reaching your goal.

How do you live up to your eulogy to-be? First, you write down how you would like to be remembered and then you figure out how to go about this. Lots of people tell me that they don’t know what it is that they are supposed to be doing with their life. It is easy to figure out if you follow the Three Steps as outlined here.
STEP TWO
Remember when you were at pre-school? What did you like and what were you good at?
This is obviously different for all of us. I LOVED writing and decorating my writing even before I started kindy. Now I’m an author.
One of my daughters LOVED spending time with animals and now she works with horses and coaches disabled people how to ride.
My other daughter from a very young age LOVED music and volunteered for many years at a local radio station presenting her own breakfast show.
Most of us showed some aptitude at a very young age for a particular ‘something.’ What was this for you before the world got hold of you and you forgot?
Remember that ease and that joy? Own it and re-create it!
Step Three
What is your unique task in this life?
I have three clues for you.
Clue One
Your unique task is likely to be right in front of you
Clue Two
It is likely something that challenges you.
Clue Three
It is probably something that only you can do.
In my case, I am the only mother of my children and the only Godmother to my Godson. I have unique insights and abilities that only I can bring to the table. I was uniquely placed in this position as the only person in the whole wide world.
Is this challenging me? Hell yeah! I give it my best shot… most of the time.
Below I’ll give you a couple of examples of people I admire for performing the task they were given to perfection.
The doorman at David Jones.
Many years ago there was a doorman at the department store David Jones. I recall times that this frazzled mum would juggle kids and parcels, and this wonderful doorman would open the door wide for me and my children with a genuine smile and a few nice words.
It is now decades later and I remember this man with much fondness. He made my life a little easier at the time. His smile and kind words were genuine. How is this even possible? To open the door, like thousands of times a day and then greet and make each and every person that came through this door, feel welcomed and special.
This is the task that was uniquely given to this doorman and he did his job so well that I remember him decades later. Thank you, Doorman, from David Jones, I remember you.
Michael Hoskin and Turia Pitt
If you don’t live in Australia you may not have heard of Michael Hoskin and Turia Pitt. They are two of our heroes.
Turia got severely burned during a bushfire at an ultra marathon in 2011. She never gave up. Nor did her boyfriend Michael. He had been uniquely placed in a position as her boyfriend and rose to the task he had been given as her boyfriend and helper. Neither one of them bailed. It would be nice to think that this is normal but we all know that this is not the case. Many people bail when the going gets tough. It was extraordinarily tough for these two young people and both of them rose to the task. As she has struggled to regain her health and return to a normal life, Michael has supported her through thick and thin.
I take my hat off to you both.

I’ve just given you three easy-peasy steps to follow for living the best life possible for anyone, anywhere, anytime.
These steps work for bank managers, teachers, mums and dads, school-aged kids, mature students, sports people, entrepreneurs, health professionals and their patients, counselors, and coaches. Yes, they even work for retirees.
My health scares happened to me later in life and I still managed to turn things around for the better by going through these three steps.

Written during recovery
Meredith wrote this book during recovery from an extremely challenging time in her life – having gone through a divorce, resignation from her long term teaching job and relocation to a different city to access better services for her autistic daughter. Her daughter was also very unwell at this time, becoming bedridden by a mystery illness. All of this had left Meredith feeling exhausted, fearful, alone and very isolated.

All of us live forever
Mimi believes in living forever, but even if you don’t believe in an afterlife, you will still leave an imprint and live forever in the hearts of your loved ones.
Religion does not have to come into it. As Tony Judt puts it so eloquently, we’re all responsible for the impact we have on the people around us.
The following is quoted from Tony Judt, historian, (02/91/1948-06/08/2010).
Just months before the historian Tony Judt died of ALS in 2010, he gave an interview to Terry Gross on NPR’s Fresh Air. When she asked him about his spiritual beliefs, he replied as follows.
I don’t believe in an afterlife. I don’t believe in a single or multiple godhead. I respect people who do, but I don’t believe it myself. But there’s a big “but” which enters in here: I am much more conscious than I ever was, for obvious reasons, of what it will mean to people left behind once I’m dead.
It won’t mean anything for me, but it will mean a lot to them, and it’s important for them, by which I mean my children or my wife or my close friends, that some spirit of me is, in a positive way, present in their lives, in their heads, in their imaginings, and so on.
In one curious way I’ve come to believe in the afterlife as a place where I still have moral responsibilities, just as I do in this life, except that I can only exercise them before I get there. Once I get there, it’ll be too late.
So no god, no organized religion, but a developing sense that there’s something bigger than the world we live in, including after we die, and that we have responsibilities in that world.
Few, if any, of our Facebook or Twitter friends will be at our death bed, or care either way.
How will we be remembered by our close friends and family members? How did we or do we impact their lives on a daily basis?
What unique task were we given and how did we live up to this?

DESCRIPTION
Why on earth would anyone ever want to write their own eulogy-to-be?
Well, sometimes life just sucks, and then consequently your eulogy would suck too. Double whammy.
The word eulogy-to-be is a concession we had to make because certain family members became quite traumatised when the subject of writing a eulogy popped up.
If a eulogy is a celebration of life then a eulogy-to-be is a write-up for the purpose of getting perspective on life so that we can adjust course if necessary, and celebrate life every single day, and not miss out on our own final party.

Growing up as an adopted farm girl, Teresa has spent countless hours on a tractor dreaming up stories, and paying close attention to the way of people, birds, animals, clouds and God. Because her mother showed her the way of compassion with all things lost, little or weak, Teresa knew one day she would do more than only dream.
No stranger herself to poverty and cancer, Teresa led her community in a faith based mission to help people with various needs, and also founded a support outreach for people living with the uncertainty and struggles of cancer. In 2003, Teresa received the Nonprofit of the Year Award for leading a regional caregiving organization to high service impact.
Today, Teresa works as a teacher and a preacher, and sometimes as an auctioneer, inspirational speaker and actor. She teaches incarcerated adults academics, life skills and spiritual truths. This fits perfectly with her pastoral role in a small rural congregation where God and tractors are the main topics.

I am Tina Pocernich, and I live in Wisconsin. I’ve been married nearly 25 years and am the mother and stepmother to five adult children: three boys and two girls, and eight grandchildren. I work full-time for a technical college, and recently, I’ve become an author. My passions are transparency, integrity, and truth.
In January 2017, I participated in a small group of women studying the book Dream It, Pin It, Live It by Terri Savelle Foy. For the first time in my life, I focused on looking at, and establishing personal goals and a vision board for a 12-18 month period. One of those goals was to write a book. When my goals were in front of me, I believe I was more aware of opportunities before me. In January, I also noticed an ad on my Facebook feed regarding Chandler Bolt’s Self-Publishing School. I downloaded and read two of his books, Published and Book Launch. Then I joined Chandler’s online Self-Publishing School Mastermind Community to gain even more knowledge and support throughout the book writing process. I have no idea how many times I may have seen that information in my feed previously, but I know I wouldn’t have noticed it if I hadn’t set a goal to write a book.
In July of 2017, I completed my book, Open Doors Open Hearts. God has allowed me to experience various things in life, and I believe it gives me purpose to share my possessions and experiences with others.
As a logical and direct person, I present my thoughts in a very practical way, without a lot of flowery language. My style is simple, but straight from the heart.
My hope is that you’ll enjoy my writing and find nuggets of truth you can implement in your own life.

It has been said that Janine Logue Wooten “packs more living into one lifetime than anyone.”
Like most creatives she was neither recognized or encouraged early on, and was in fact discouraged from trying anything unconventional. She married and started her family at the young age of 21. Janine always truly loved being a Mommy – and now she’s been promoted to Grammy! But the kids grew, as kids do, and eventually became independent adults, and she found herself feeling like something was missing, career wise.
She tried her hand at a few things: owning a jewelry business, making jewelry, tutoring Math, importing Turkish carpets, selling Real Estate, selling Diamonds, selling Roofing, and being a superintendent for a construction firm… Seriously. Sometimes overlapping. Clearly tons of energy, drive and motivation – but you might notice a bit of a lack of focus.
Janine loves to learn, with the list of subjects being just as broad and varied as the work history. Put it in front of her, and she will want to know everything there is to know about it, and then dive into it, and do it to the best of her ability.
(Perhaps certain personality types come to mind, such as ADD, ADHD, OCD, and she now knows, serious dyslexia! Although, back in the day, these things were not known. She just did her best, and tried to sit still and conform. Her mom to this day says Janine “can’t sit still”!)
She can now see how the labyrinth of her life has been perfectly leading her to this place all along! Everything along the way has been part of the grand picture, a small but crucial piece of the puzzle that makes up a magnificent and unique story! A beautiful tapestry of a life fully lived!
Her favorite things to do are painting, writing, teaching, helping others learn and grow, reading, traveling, walking on the beach, and “good food” outings with great friends!

I keep thinking, “I’ll phone Mum and tell her,’ and then I don’t.
It is always the same around this time of the year, my Mum keeps popping into my head. My Mum who wrote notes for school so that I could take days off whenever I wanted to. I had a whole stack of these, written in advance. These notes got me into trouble and not for what you may think.
My bestie at primary, her name was Leony. Well, Leony’s Mum didn’t write absentee notices in advance. She never wrote these at all. So when Leony fancied a day off from school I said, “no worries, I know how we can arrange that.” It took me no time at all to copy my Mum’s note, replace my name with my friend’s name and hand this notice to my friend who handed it to the principal. I felt proud of my handiwork. I even forged my Mum’s handwriting so that the principal would read ‘adult’ and not ‘children’s’ writing.
The next day I was called to the principal’s office. How on earth did he know that it was me who wrote the note for my friend Leony? He unsuccessfully tried to hide his grin. He thought it was funny. I didn’t think it so funny, having to write down THREE HUNDRED TIMES that I was not to write absentee notes for my friends!

My Mum baked the best cakes, gave the best hugs, loved the most perfect.
Why do I keep thinking that I need to phone Mum?
Mother’s day has always been in May, as was my Mum’s birthday. Yes, her eightieth birthday was May 22. Mum had her eighty first, her very last birthday in hospital. I didn’t visit her. Was her funeral in May also? I cannot remember. I did not go. I wanted to go but was not able to. I was recovering from an inoperable ruptured appendix. Travel was out of the question.
For decades and decades I would phone my Mum daily and visit her on her birthday and Mother’s day and sent her cards and presents. And then, one day, it stopped. I cannot remember the exact day. It’s a bit hazy and I like to keep it that way. Because every now and then I want to phone my Mum and say,
Mum, I love you.
“Hey Mum, do you know that I love you. You’re best Mum in the whole wide world. No one makes cakes like you do, nor macaroni nor tomato soup. Your salads are out of this world and your pancakes deserve awards. I love you Mum for your care and your never ending love and your kindness and for always being there for me. I thank you for all the Jesus’ stories and parables. Whipped cream is still my favourite Mum. Thank you for bringing me up to appreciate the good things in life.
Hey Mum, are you there? Mum? Mum?”
The thought stops before it completes itself. Yes, Mum is there. She’s in my heart. She’ll live on forever in my thoughts and life. She lives on in me and my children. In my world my Mum lives forever.
I love you Mum. Thank you Mum. Happy Mother’s day, Mum.

I blame it on Debbie. She came to visit and mucked up our internet, power and phone lines for nearly a week. As such the cover change-over got stuck in cyber space. In addition Create Space took nine days to reduce the price on the softcover and ever since I’ve been v e r y reluctant to make any changes. Eventually I may synchronise the covers but so far the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Readers actually like the fact that the kindle has a different cover from the paper copy.
